How Nikki and Ian got a boutique hotel feel with blinds

Nikki and Ian’s home tells the story of their relationship. The couple first met at the exact spot they would build their matrimonial home. In the final part of our three-part series about the property, we talk to Nikki and Ian about how they achieved a beautiful boutique hotel feel in their bedroom and bathrooms.

Lots of us long for that hotel feeling, but few of us manage to achieve it in our own homes.

Empty bedroom

Nikki and Ian have successfully transformed their master bedroom, en suite and family bathroom from blank canvases into clean, luxurious spaces that wouldn’t feel out of place in any high-end hotel. Here’s how they did it…

“As with the other rooms, our hunt started with the blinds. With Wooden blinds everywhere else in the home, it was a no-brainer that they’d fit in the master bedroom and bathrooms too,” says Nikki.

“And for our bedroom, it had to be the same clean white as our other rooms.”

With a single, modestly-sized window in the master bedroom, the wide, white slats allow Nikki and Ian to make the most of the light coming in from their unusual window.

“We were initially a little worried about measuring for blinds for a dormer window, but all the advice on the Web-Blinds site made it really easy,” explains Ian.

The fresh white shade at the window allowed for a really bright duvet cover and accessories. They pop beautifully against the window and the walls.

White Wooden blinds in the bedroom

Of course, with white blinds throughout their home, you could be forgiven for assuming Nikki and Ian’s choices in the bathrooms would be a foregone conclusion. But they had something slightly different in mind…

“The high-gloss grey Wooden blinds we chose for both our en suite and family bathroom are perfect for the spaces, as they match the units almost exactly. They’re also really great at bouncing the light around – ideal when you’re doing your makeup,” says Nikki.

Grey Wooden blinds

“And both the white and grey blinds will stand the test of time, even if we decide to change up our décor schemes.”

Choosing to have grey tape instead of cords further adds to the hotel feel, creating an almost shutter-like effect. And the fuchsia towels and accessories add a touch of warmth and fun to the space.

“The whole process was really easy,” says Ian. “Putting up a whole house of blinds took my friend and I less than a day. I couldn’t believe it. I’d encourage anyone, even those less confident with DIY, to give it a go themselves.”

And now the couple have a house to be proud of – and one they’ll call home for years to come.
