Take a look at Susan’s spare bedroom. She’s teamed modern grey feature wall with vintage-style bedding. And the finishing touch is that beautiful blind from Web-Blinds.
If we’re not careful, spare bedrooms can become unloved spaces (we’re looking at you washing basket). Sometimes it’s only the day before a guest arrives that we nervously open the door to peer inside. But Susan’s room is anything but a scary space.
The best thing about spare bedrooms is that you can really experiment. You don’t have to sleep there every night, so why not try out an accent wall, bold bedroom blind or striking bedding? Think of it as a place to let your imagination run wild.
Susan ran with a vintage-inspired scheme, choosing the feminine Roman blind, Birdie Song. But she gave everything a modern edge with a lush grey carpet and crisp feature wall in the same shade.
“We love the finished look,” says Susan, “and guests love staying here! We have family scattered across the country, so it’s a well-used space.
“It felt great to fit something ourselves – it really wasn’t daunting. My husband James watched the tutorial video and was good to go!”
Of course, Susan chose a blackout lining to help make sure guests will want to stay again and again. Fitting it inside the recess helps to keep light at bay – for particularly sunny rooms, consider one both inside and outside the recess.
